Abstract |
Objective Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common clinical disease. Nearly all patients have unilateral CSDH, but bilateral CSDH
is not rare. We thought that there are the differences between unilateral and bilateral CSDH even though we have good result through
the simple burr hole drainage. The authors analyzed the clinical feature of unilateral and bilateral CSDH.
Methods 85 patients CSDH patients were included who were operated on burr hole trephination and closed system drainage between January
2010 and December 2012. We classified them into two groups by unilateral and bilateral. We investigated the history of head injury, underlying
medical conditions, neurologic symptoms, Glasgow Coma Scale, Markwalder clinical grade, morbidity, mortality, Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS),
and recurrence.
Results Trauma is major etiology in two groups. There is no difference at co-existing disease between two groups. The good outcome is attained
in GOS at discharge in both groups.
Conclusion There is no significant difference between bilateral and unilateral chronic subdural hematoma. And the postoperative results were
as good as unilateral hematoma patient in bilateral subdural hematoma patient. |
