Abstract
Objective
Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis therapy have bad outcome due to hematoma enlargement. The purpose of this paper is to clarify factors associated hematoma enlargement.
Methods
Sixteen patients undergoing hemodialysis who were admitted to our hospital with spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage between 2003 and 2009 were investigated. We rechecked brain computed tomography in 2nd day of admission to evaluate hematoma enlargement. Age, sex, past history, cause or renal failure, duration of dialysis, time interval to admission, level of consciousness, location and shape of hematoma, hematoma volume, blood pressure and laboratory findings associated hemostatic dysfunction were compared.
Results
Hematoma enlargement was observed in 5 patients. Hematoma volume and hepatic dysfunction were significantly different between patients with and without hematoma enlargement (p<0.05).
Conclusion
We suggest large hematoma volume and previously hepatic dysfunction are factors of hematoma enlargement after admission in patient undergoing hemodialysis patients.
