Analysis of Predisposing Factors of the Remote Spinal Infection in Aged Patients After Selective Nerve Root Block

Abstract
Objective
Selective nerve root block (SNRB) has become an important tool in the management of degenerative spinal disease in aged patients. But distant level infection after selective nerve root block is rare, and studies have not been addressed in recent times. The purposes of this study are to identify the clinical characteristics.
Methods
Between January 2014 and September 2016, a total 36 patients treated spinal infection in this study. Patients factors and laboratory characters were compared between the remoted infection group and non-remote infection group. The association between these factors was performed using a multivariate and univariate logistic regression.
Results
Overall, we included 36 patients. A total of 15 patients (41%) had a remote infection after SNRB. 21 patients showed infection at the site of SNRB. A multivariate study revealed that the duration of antibiotic use was significantly shorter in the remote infection group than in the comparative group (OR=0.805/p=0.041).
Conclusion
In our studies report the characteristic and hypothesis of the after procedure related remote spine infection. There is little specific difference between two groups. But our study had the limitation that a number of patient groups were small. The additional well-designed analysis is needed.
