Abstract
Objective
In hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, most researches were focused on prognosis, survival rate, recurrence rate, there were few studies of quality of life (QOL). We assessed long-term QOL in patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage.
Methods
Total 128 patients who had experienced hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage between January 2011 and December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. We measured the mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, anxiety/depression and EQ VAS (visual analogue scale) in patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage using EQ-5D-3L through telephone interviews. We calculated time-trade off (TTO) as an indicator of QOL of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage.
Results
Of the 51 patients, 23 people (45.1%) had any problems in mobility, 26 people (51.0%) in self-care, 31 people (60.8%) in usual activities, 33 people (64.7%) in pain/discomfort and 32 people (62.7%) in anxiety/depression. Self-reported health status was statistically significant different between the young and elderly patients; 29.4% vs. 76.5% in mobility (p<0.001), 38.2% vs. 76.5% in self-care (p=0.010), 50% vs. 82.4% in usual activities (p=0.026), 55.9% vs. 82.4% in pain/discomfort (p=0.062), and 52.9% vs. 82.4%(p=0.041), respectively. EQ VAS score was statistically significantly higher in the elderly patients than in the young patients (3.6 (SD 2.6) vs. 1.9 (SD 2.7), p=0.044). Time trade-off (TTO) was statistically significantly lower in the elderly patients than in the young patients (median 0.48 (Q1, Q3) (0.44, 0.56) vs. 0.71 (0.53, 1.00), p=0.023).
Conclusion
About half of the patients who experienced hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage seem to think to have any problems in their health status. This tendency was more frequent in the elderly patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage.
