Abstract |
External ventricular drainage (EVD) insertion has been one of the most frequently practiced operative procedures in neurosurgical field. Therefore, it is prone to certain complications including infection and hemorrhage. We report a typical case of an EVD insertion procedure on a subarachnoid hemorrhage patient which resulted in a catheter induced hemorrhage post-procedure. A 62-year-old male patient was admitted via emergency department complaining sudden bursting headache. He was diagnosed with subarachnoid hemorrhage with ruptured intracranial aneurysm and underwent emergency decompressive craniectomy with aneurysm neck clipping and external ventricular drainage (EVD) insertion for intracranial pressure management. Post-operative computerized tomography scan showed hemorrhage complication due to EVD catheter. This case discusses hemorrhagic complication caused by catheter insertion. |
