Clinical Consideration in Eldest Age Group with Ruptured Intracranial Aneurysm

Abstract

Objective: There has been increasing concems about treatment for elderly patients with ruptured intracrania aneurysm. We performed this retrospective study to help form teeatment plans by accessing the influence of treatment timing and modality on clinical progression and outcome of patients of eldest age group with ruptured intracaranial aneurysm. Methods: Using the medical records, radiologic findings and videos of surgical procedures of 15 patients undergoing treatment for ruptured intractanial aneurysm. a retrospective study was performed. We analyzed Hunt and Hess Classification and Fisher Grade at admission, coexisting medical diseases, treatment timing and modalities, results and outcomes, and postoperative complications. Results: Nine patients out of fifteen underwent surgical operations and five of them showed gavorable outcome admitted. Six patients who received medical treatment only all expired. Conclusions: This Study shows that the surgical treatment can be helpful for elderly patients with ruptured intracranial aneurysm to make good outcomes when they exhibit gavorable neurological status on admission.
